Thanks to a good friend, I was able to attend the first showing of New Moon at the South Common theatres just over a week ago (and again this past Thursday.) It was good, wolfy fun. I hadn't read the books in a while and forgot how little substance there is to them. Subsequently, I decided to reread the final two books in the series to see how they held up over the last couple of years. Amazingly, they had the same basic effect on me as the first time. I read them quickly, I was engrossed while reading to the point that we ate fries and hot dogs two nights in a row, and after reading them, I felt...sad. A mini depression if you will. I don't know what it is about these books! The only other author that has had this kind of effect on me was S.E. Hinton, but I always assumed that it was more when I read the books (teenage angst) as apposed to her actually writing style. I am generally a very happy person but with months of lack of sleep and Meyer's books, I seem to have hit a funk.
What to do? Find better material to read? Well, that wouldn't be hard. Although I totally understand the appeal of the Twilight series, I don't hail them as great literature by any means. So, what do all of you suggest I pick up on my next trip to the library? I'm looking for romance, which is new for me. Besides the aforementioned Vampire books, I usually shy away from anything intimate so this is fairly new territory for me. I grudgingly read the Austen novels in my high school years, so those are out (besides, its way more fun to watch the various BBC adaptations of those books anyway! Colin Firth, yummy. Hmmm...Colin Firth as a vampire...interesting...)

Okay, I apparently really need some help.
